Green Toolkit

Many media productions already employ resource-saving and ecologically sustainable production methods to be as climate-neutral as possible.

Green Production

Why?

In line with the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (europa.eu) and Red Bull’s voluntary SBTi alignment, starting in 2025, the company will not only monitor its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF)—the total greenhouse gas emissions directly or indirectly caused by a company's business activities—but also measure its Media Carbon Footprint (MCF), which refers to the emissions generated by our media products. Calculating the MCF enables transparent communication of environmental impacts while allowing targeted measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

All Red Bull productions and co-productions that are billed under a production Internal Order Number from Red Bull Media House must, in compliance with our Green Production Guidelines, be mandatorily recorded by their respective budget owners, including calculations and reporting of CO2e footprints.

Data required includes all expenses paid internally or externally by Red Bull. Wherever possible, primary data such as consumption figures should be used. These primary data may consist of either self-measurements or documented third-party information provided as part of an invoice or in the form of a written declaration.

What?

We're currently prioritizing tracking and reporting to ensure we achieve meaningful results, continuing our regular activities while preparing to take future actions.

All activities that have a carbon impact must be reported, prioritized in efforts from the big to the smaller emitters. Hereby it is important, as a rule, that everything that you pay for has an impact and should therefore be part of the emission tracking (e.g. flights of external partners). Whoever owns the budget of a production IO number is accountable for the reporting of the CO2 emissions that these budgets create.

Simplified: Emissions follow budgets.

Big emitters are all activities involving the use of fossil fuels: travel, transport, logistics, energy consumption, big amounts of waste, whereas smaller emitters are most likely catering, small amount of cooling agents, materials, etc.

Depending on the production or project this may be adjusted.

How?

Data collection will be handled using the "Green Toolkit" platform: it gathers activity data, such as flight amounts and distances, per internal order (IO) and calculates the environmental impact. This information will then be uploaded to our corporate data model.

Every project responsible person will get access and training to the “Green Toolkit” and has the responsibility as part of the project recap to fill in the main activity data.

We do not report rough estimates, but actual calculations of consumption data. Further information will be presented to you in the available trainings, and we have a team available that supports you in your efforts (via documentation, consultancy, Q&As and much more).

In addition, external partners e.g. Production Partners and Vendors are contractually informed about their responsibility to report activity data in this tool too.

We’re in an ongoing process to reduce manual efforts and to further automate and simplify this procedure.

RBMH Green Production Process

  • 1
Selection of individual trades (production partners, vendors, external staff)
  • 2
Incentivizing the team regarding sustainability and encouraging their cooperation in emission tracking.
  • 3
Edit your entries and add new cues manually if you have not used music from the Audio Library
  • 4
Implementing measures and ensuring proper communication.
  • 5
Analysis of planned production including CO₂e forecast in all areas and trades
  • 6
CO₂e tracking (Green Toolkit) throughout production management
  • 7
Preparation of a final report (*.pdf) following production

„The Golden Rule“: Emissions follow budget

This means that for every production for which we perform a footprint calculation, we record the emissions for everything we paid for. Where possible, we use primary data, such as consumption data. This primary data can be our own measurements or documented information from third parties as part of the invoice or in a written statement. By documented, we mean that these are not rough estimates, but an actual calculation of consumption data.

Final Report

The Final Report is part of the SLA for our production partners. It must be fully completed and submitted to the budget owner upon completion of production. This is a *.pdf form listing the CSRD-relevant production sectors and is intended to provide an overview of the extent to which the Green Production Guidelines – also part of the SLA – have been implemented by the production partner. The budget owner is responsible for communicating with the production partner regarding strict implementation.

External Ressources (Green Production Assistant)

Do you have a complex production coming up that requires external support from experienced, certified Green Consultants and Green Production Assistants to manage communication with the trades, track your Green Toolkit, and prepare the final report?
